To establish the certification approach, process and programme.

Etude provide initial information pack outlining process, evidence requirements and what to expect on programme.

1 Design review

To ensure the design is capable of meeting the Passivhaus standard at planning / pre-tender stage, and agree key assumptions.

i. Passivhaus designer sends Etude the PHPP calculation and all supporting evidence available for key stages.

We try to carry out at least one thorough design review before construction tender, for complex projects we would do another review based on planning information.

ii. Etude review the PHPP calculation and design evidence, we provide detailed feedback to the team on thermal performance. Any outstanding design evidence is highlighted.

2 Construction review

To ensure the proposed construction is on track to meet the Passivhaus standard.

i. Client confirms contractor appointment and programme.

ii. Passivhaus designer updates calculations based on contractor design and sends Etude the updated PHPP calculation and all detailed design evidence.

This is typically when the window and door procurement, and the mechanical services design have been finalised.

iii. Etude carry out quality assurance checks for the PHPP calculation and detailed design evidence, certification assessment on finalised information such as window product information.

iv. Etude provide feedback and confirm outstanding evidence required.

3 Final review

To ensure the completed building meets the Passivhaus standard.

i. Passivhaus designer sends Etude the final PHPP calculation with all supporting construction evidence and any updated design information.

ii. Contractor submits final air test and ventilation commissioning reports

iii. Etude complete final review including generating a separate certification PHPP.

Etude submit project to the Passivhaus Institute in Germany for registering and receiving project codes.

4 Certification

To recognise the performance standard achieved by the building.

i. Etude issue Passivhaus certificate and building plaque/s to the client

ii. Project added to the Passivhaus database
