Future Homes Standard solar PV calculator
Roof-mounted solar PV plays an important role in meeting the requirements of Approved Document Part L 2026 and the Future Homes Standard requirements. The requirements are more complex than they first appear, and it isn’t straight forward to understand how much solar PV you need. We’ve created a solar PV tool that provides an estimate for the size of array that you will need for the Future Homes Standard and the requirements of Part L 2026. The tool currently only works for houses.

The Etude Future Homes Standard solar PV calculation tool is intended as a simple guide rather than a substitute for full compliance modelling. You can’t use this to submit for approval against Part L 2026, however it will quickly tell you the size of the PV system (and the associated number of panels) you should allow during design. The target calculation and generation estimates should be checked against the final approved Part L 2026 SAP 10.3 methodology before being used for compliance decisions.
If you have questions about the Future Homes Standard, Part L 2026, SAP 10.3 or the Home Energy Model (HEM), contact Etude at london@etude.co.uk. We can help assess how your design is likely to perform, including energy demand, energy use and renewable energy generation.
