Blackridge Nursery

Blackridge Nursery provides 64 spaces for early learning in response to Scottish Government’s commitment to increase funded childcare. At the same time, an identical nursery was built to non-Passivhaus standards to enable ongoing monitoring and comparison between the two buildings.

As Passivhaus certifiers for the scheme, we provided feedback on calculations and design assumptions throughout the design process to ensure the project was on track to meet the Passivhaus standard. Our quality control input was particularly important given the research element of the project to ensure it performs in accordance with the Passivhaus standard. Preliminary results are consistent with forecasts showing the Passivhaus nursery is delivering significant cost savings, less CO₂ emissions and heating demand over a whole life analysis over 40 years.
