Cornwall Council Climate Emergency DPD

Cornwall Council recently released their draft Climate Emergency DPD, a planning policy document outlining the Council’s approach to act on the climate emergency in the built environment.

In collaboration with Currie and Brown, we investigated the cost and technical feasibility of delivering net zero carbon new build to meet an interim space heat demand of 30 kWh/m2/yr and full Passivhaus Standard, with corresponding total energy use targets. We also compared PHPP predicted electricity use to UK domestic electricity meter data.

Our work revealed that it is technically feasible to achieve net zero for all building types, the costs of doing so are very modest, and PHPP predicted energy use aligns well with UK electricity meter datasets.
