Cornwall Housing Decarbonisation Strategy

Cornwall Council required a housing decarbonisation strategy outlining the Council’s approach to act on the climate emergency in the built environment.

We translated the latest thinking on retrofit and housing decarbonisation from organisations such as the Climate Change Committee, LETI, Nesta, and others into a regional plan for Cornwall and highlighted that the most important action required is to decarbonise heat through the use of heat pumps powered by renewable energy.

Our work revealed that the key to affordable operating costs is good heat pump system design and installation, selecting the right electricity tariff, using on-site solar generation, and improving fabric efficiency.
