ESSA Retrofit Guides

Etude, Prewett Bizley and Levitt Bernstein and Etude were appointed by the ESSA Conservation Area association, with support from the Royal Borough of Kensington to create highly visual retrofit guides for three archetypes as well as a strategic retrofit appraisal document.

The visual guides are aimed at homeowners and a non-technical audience. They provide information on the existing fabric of homes and outline suitable retrofit measures, using three-dimensional illustrations. They aim to demystify what can feel like a daunting and complex subject.

The guides provide a useful starting point for residents in the conservation area and beyond. In particular, they highlight the key roles of window upgrades and heat pumps.
