Leicester Cathedral Revealed – Heritage Learning Centre

Richard III was recently reinterred at Leicester Cathedral creating a change to visitor patterns and requirements. Working closely with the architects we developed an energy strategy for a refurbishment of the Cathedral, and a design (to RIBA Stage 3) for a Passivhaus learning centre extension. The Heritage Learning Centre must satisfy complex requirements and multiple stakeholders. Submissions were prepared for The Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England (CFCE), Heritage Lottery Fund, Listed building consent, and the local planning authority. Etude’s work covered energy, thermal comfort, daylight and overheating risk.

The extension has a two-storey basement to incorporate storage and toilet facilities for the Cathedral, a gallery and visitor facilities, and a fully equipped classroom for larger groups.
